AHM

AHM later on! So glad to be currently on deployment, protecting the interests of the nation. Which of course translates into not having to go for the AHM!
Pity those who have to. Book in. Run. Go home. Book in again on the night. BUMMER!
Enjoy the run! While I enjoy the comforts of slumber.. Ahh..
zzzZZZ...
Deployment
2:37 am
It's the last deployment! Woo hoo! Been kinda fun being attached to another platoon. Refreshing. Not that anything's wrong with MY platoon, that is..
Was quitely snickering to myself when some of the guys made fun of where I was going to go. Ya.. sure it's not really the best of places to go. But heck! My schedule beats yours, hands down, anytime! Haha! Who's having the last laugh now? ME, OFC!
Revel in ur place being the more 'glamourous' one.. but I think having more days off, being at home, is the better thing to be revelling in, oui?
Swimming
2:06 am
Swimming was great! All the more better was swimming FOC, on somebody else's acct. Games trial for some celebration thing..
The Jurong West Sports Hall is HUGE! Back when they were building it, I knew it'd be big, but I didn't know it'd be THAT big. Guess I don't have to go to the Jurong East one. Which to me pales in comparison..
10 Things about Girls that Guys will NEVER understand..
11:30 am - Friday, August 17, 2007
This is taken from a blog of someone I know. OK, not personally, but.. oh well..
In her own comment on the post she said,
"Also note to all: I hope you can tell in the style that I wrote this post, it was generally lighthearted, and to induce a smile rather than to be taken too seriously? I mean, there IS some truth in the post, but I may have stretched it a *little*. Just a teeny bit. ;)".
So, read it with a pinch of sugar (I have sweet teeth. Sugar is healthier than salt. Oui? Haha!). Enjoy!

Live firing
10:11 am - Monday, August 13, 2007
Live firing was somewhat a dampener. Sure it was great to see live explosives and all, what with the last time I saw was during my BMT. It's been that long.
Too bad whatever happened, happened. If not, it'd have been a great sight at night indeed.
And so much for the issue of land scarcity..
NDP 07
10:05 am
This yr's NDP was nice. A change, for one. Having it on a floating platform, rather than at the Padang or National Stadium sure made me not wanna miss it.
Went out for makan with the family on the 0908 itself, so missed a bit of the Parade on that day. Nevertheless, caught the repeat telecast on 1208.
Was watching it for the parade section, NOT for the sing/dance/whatever section. So couldn't be bothered with that. Didn't bothered on the 0908, the same for on 1208. Being conscripted has led me to appreciate parades and all the intricacies involved. It seems that there are fewer contingents this time ard, what with the floating platform. Saw my unit's flag!
Till next year then!
I wish..
3:46 am - Thursday, August 09, 2007
Sometimes I wish I'm not where I am now. It gets kinda boring really, after some time.
Looking back at all the exercises I've had to go through, I wish I was in the special three men section. To be precise, two men and a commander.
Being the commander for this section would be the best. Getting commander level allowance. Answerable only for three men. Two directly under him, and another one, whose job primarily involves needles. Or so the misconception goes. Ofc this would be wishful thinking on my part. I don't have the qualification, for one thing.
That said, being one half of the two men in this section would be the next best. A regular section has one too many ppl.
Oh well..
Parades
3:26 am
I don't get it with parades!
Seriously!
What is it with them anyway?
I'm not really sure, but to be safe, I'd better not say the occasions that call for a parade. Lest history repeats itself. Heh!
A parade that everyone knows, at least in Singapore that is, is ofc the NDP. A fren commented on her blog that this is getting a bit tired. Which I agree. Same old same old year in year out: the parade itself, songs, dance, pyrotechnics!
Last year, I saw the Parade in a diff light. Most prob cos by then, I was already enlisted. So I could appreciate the intricacies of parades.
Gotta give credit where credit is due, right? Mind you, a parade, any parade, isn't so easy as it looks. A 'simple', 30 min long parade could have anywhere between 1 to 2 days of practice behind it. I know. I've been involved in one before. Don't ask.
So just imagine a parade of that scale, with so many ppl watching. Months, not days of prep. Uuurrgghh! I shudder to even think of it!
The thing I don't get is this: why a parade to celebrate whatever it is that is being celebrated? How exactly is having a parade celebrating the occasion? Get my drift? Hmm..
Answers. Answers. I need answers..
Iin can walk now!
2:29 am
Yup yup! My second niece, Iin, can walk now. Ofc, hers is not like her sis, Ira, who's been walking for quite some time. Iin's is somewhere between someone who's just graduated from crawling, and walking with us pacing her, holding her hands. But it's just kinda cute lah..
Ofc having two walking nieces spells more trouble, what with all the possible mischief they can cause and get into.. but hey, that's another thing altogether.. Haha!

Grounded
Having a blog, saying sorry, and having nice things to say (and MEANING it, not just saying it).
These I think, are what keeps ppl grounded. Whether they are bigshots, celebrities or just the layman on the street.
Thru a local entertainment mag, I got the URL of two blogs, belonging to Andrea and Felicia. I also have one that belongs to Nurul. I have a blog, and it may just be me, but if someone's a celebrity, having a blog is like reaching out to ppl who like you. Your fans. To connect directly to them. It just somehow makes them more reachable, with both feet planted fimly on the ground. In fact, in a comment in reply to the comments she got, one of these two celebs wrote 'vocalbulary'! Was that a genuine mistake? Or did she really didn't know how to spell that word? How cute is that! :)
When you're in the wrong, you're wrong. Period. No matter who you are. In their song, Blue sang 'Sorry seems to be the hardest word'. I guess they're right.
Back at my old place at BB, I was using mysingtel (mst) for Net connection. mst uses the telephone line, and not a modem. So it was a norm to have an extension wire from the tele jack connected to the comp. Once, my mum tripped on the wire, it came out from the jack, and the Net disconnected. It's very irritating to have dc-ed. But she was very apologetic and kept saying 'Sorry' profusely. That somehow lessens the agony of having to reconnect everything.
There's this guy in camp who doesn't seem to have anything nice to say to ppl. Whenever he speaks, it's always smthg wrong with this, smthg wrong with that, blah blah blah etc etc etc. I could go on, but I don't wanna spread his negativity here. Hah!
It makes ppl boil whenever he opens his mouth. I say 'ppl', and not 'me', cos I know I'm not the only one who feels this way abt him. Lucky for him his rank on his epaulettes. Ppl tolerate his crap, but I can't say for sure they tolerate HIM.
For a start, maybe he could say smthg nice abt things that ARE right. Things that were done right by us mere mortals with ranks far below his. Would that hurt? But I guess THAT would take much work on his part too. We're so used to hearing negativities from him, to hear positivities from him, it'd be hard to believe!
That pretty much sums up what I have to say. These three things, to me, are what keeps ppl grounded.
Speaking of having nice things to say, lemme share a technique of giving someone a compliment, and not having to sound like you're apple polishing or boot licking. This is from a book that I'm currently reading.
Simply give it thru the grapevine. Gossip, in another word. In this case, of the good kind.
Say you like A, and you wanna compliment him/her. B is someone who's close to A. Tell it to B instead. On odds of ten to one, your compliment will reach A in 24hr! (The author of the book says this, not me. I'm merely paraphrasing it, in my own words)
Try it out!
