I've always been of de opinion that if there were to be a road traffic accident where I live, meaning to say Jalan Bahar, Jurong West Ave 5, or anywhere near, those involved in it would be unfortunate and lucky at de same time. Unfortunate cos it's an accident lah. Duh!
So what abt lucky, you may ask? For one thing, the Jurong Police Division Headquarters is just beside de junction of JB and JWA5. So de police would be quick to arrive. Next, de Civil Defence Academy is nearby too. Distance wise, it's abt 3 or 4 bus stops away. So de other guys in blue, de firefighters, would be fast to arrive too. That means fires if any, are put out fast, and medical attention if needed, is rendered fast too. Wouldn't you agree it's lucky, thou simultaneously unfortunate?
It's almost surreal, but such a thing just happened yest. An early morning collision left a car turned turtle and a van ablaze at the junction of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jalan Bahar. The report on de straitstimes website reads:
"Car overturned, van burst into fire in collision
AN EARLY morning collision on Wednesday left a car turned turtle and a van ablaze at the busy junction of Jurong West Avenue 5 and Jalan Bahar.
Police said that they received a call at about 7am informing them of the accident involving the two vehicles.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force arrived a few minutes later and put out the fire, which came from the van's front engine compartment.
No was injured in the accident.
Stomper Elijah Chai said police arrived at the scene at about 7.15am.
From her window, she said she saw a vehicle on fire, right smack in the middle of the junction, and an overturned car.
'Flames were shooting up into the sky, and traffic was restricted to just a single lane of the major junction. There were some SCDF officers trying to put out the fire. There was a smallish explosion that took an officer off-guard,' she said in an email to Stomp.
'A while later, an officer entered the overturned car and turned off the engine. An ambulance arrived later, having taken a detour to avoid the massive jam.'
'As far as I could see, I did not witness any casualties.'
She also sent in several photos of the accident to Stomp."
I find it funny that de police arrived at 7.15am thou. The accident site's just BESIDE the J Police Div HQ! What could cause them to take so long? Oh well. I guess they HAVE their reasons, whatever they are..
The report is taken from here. I decided to copy out de report cos from past experience, sometimes news report sites may be here today, gone tml. So better to err on de safe side, no?
I couldn't find de video on youtube. Maybe it's not uploaded yet lah. So in de meantime, here's de best I could find:
